Tucson Homeless Connect

Flyer for March 4, 2011 Tucson Homessless Connect VI

Tucson Homeless Connect is a one-day, one-stop event that helps homeless people to get help that they need, and get engaged with services that can help them exit homelessness. Homeless people who are not connected to services will be encouraged and assisted to go the next Connect event. There they will be welcomed, provided food, and assisted to get help with specific needs that they identify. Agencies and organizations will be present who can help with I.D., medical screenings, haircuts, clothing, and other needs.

The next Tucson Homeless Connect event will be in the spring of 2011

Other important events in Tucson to assist homeless and low income people:

Veterans Stand Down

In times of war, the term Stand Down denoted a process where exhausted combat units were moved from frontline duty to a safe place to recuperate before being sent back into battle.  Today, Stand Down refers to a community-sponsored event to help homeless veterans combat life on the streets. The one to three day event provides a safe, stress-free environment where homeless veterans are offered a variety of services such as food, clothing, shelter, showers, health screening, VA benefits counseling, employment assistance, referrals to community support agencies, and much more.  This effort is supported by veteran/active-duty and community-based organizations, private

companies, and federal, state, and local government agencies.

HopeFest

HopeFest is held on Make a Difference Day, and provides dental care, medical screening, groceries, haircuts, clothing and hygiene items to homeless, working poor, and underprivileged families in Tucson. These services are volunteered by hundreds of individuals, organizations and businesses in our community. Over 40 dentists and dental assistants donate their time and services to HopeFest. Cleanings, a full exam and cavity care are all provided to those who need it. In past years, HopeFest has provided 16,000 people with services in one day.
