Our Goals
·
To act as advocates for the homeless.
·
To provide leadership and serve as experts
and advisors to local planning and funding bodies on issues that
impact services to homeless persons.
· To
increase community awareness and support for homeless people,
homeless issues,
TPCH and member organizations; and to support ongoing implementation
of the City of Tucson/Pima County
Plan to End Homelessness.
Our Work
TPCH committees work year- round to:
identify gaps, services and significant trends in homeless
populations through quantitative evaluation; develop priorities,
based on these trends and gaps, for improving the service network;
and to develop an annual Continuum of Care Plan for advising local
planners and decision makers regarding the most effective use of
available resources. This work contributed to the U.S. Department of
Housing in 2007 awarding more than $6.4 million to TPCH member
agencies. In addition, TPCH members cooperate with the community to
offer programs such as:
Tucson
Homeless Connect,
first held July 18, 2008. Here multiple agencies offer in one
location services that help homeless people break down barriers,
access benefits, find employment, and gain shelter in a friendly
atmosphere with hospitality. The event is coordinated with the
Tucson Veterans’ Stand Down and Hope Fest in the “3 Days, 3 Ways”
campaign to provide services to persons who are homeless or
marginalized.
Operation Deep Freeze,
which provides additional shelter for homeless people when cold
winter temperatures threaten health and safety.
Project
Summer Sun,
which provides hospitality and daytime shelter, plus water,
clothing, and other supplies when hot summer temperatures threaten
health and safety.
Each year, TPCH organizes and hosts a
community conference for homeless services providers and the
community that addresses significant issues. The conference also
serves as TPCH’s main fundraiser. Proceeds benefit these and other
community endeavors.
